Growth in 2025: 5 strategies for small businesses (that will actually work)

We’re one month away from a fresh start and we’re guessing you’re ready to put a lid on 2024. We get it. Small businesses have not had an easy go of it in recent years; the list of obligations continues to grow while growth has stalled. Audiences are harder to reach than ever and yet marketing campaigns demand more time and energy. Small business owners are stretched as thin as possible and many have asked us what strategies will actually produce results. It’s a question we’re prepared to answer and in this blog will share five tactics that will deliver positive outcomes. Really!

5 workplace trends that perform

  1. Hiring from within. Not a new trend but one not losing any momentum. If you haven’t considered it before, 2025 is the year to identify potential candidates already on your team. Even if training will be required, the rewards a company reaps through internal promotions are impressive. Company morale improves, retention rates increase (nearly double in some cases), and positions get filled more quickly. Not to mention that an internal hire is already functioning successfully within the company culture. It’s a smart move.
  2. Always be training. Another way to boost productivity and employee retention? Identify training needs and make them happen regularly. ‘Upskilling’ one’s team means employees get a chance to increase their abilities while the company enjoys an edge on the competition by retaining capable talent.
  3. Involve the entire team in setting objectives. Cast a wide net when brainstorming and pursuing goals and you’ll discover a team that is motivated to make it happen.
  4. Continue with D&I programs. Already proven to be effective in so many ways such as improving company culture and collaboration, diversity and inclusion programs are here to stay and GROW. Do not fall asleep on this one, keep it going and always look for areas of growth.
  5. Employee perks are big! We promise. You just need to offer the right ones. Perks employees actually need. These include discounts to local resources, flexible work schedules, and more PTO and/or remote work options. Free lunches are not keeping talent around any longer, employers need to look at work/life balance issues when offering benefits that matter. Start with a company-wide anonymous survey!
